How to print your digital scrapbooking
You’ve taken the free digital scrapbook kit and you want to know what to do with it?
Here’s a discussion with Doug, of Scrapbook Pictures.
Yes, we receive high-resolution scans of scrapbook layouts most frequently in 6×6, 8×8, 10×10, 8.5 x 11 and 12 x 12 sizes. We recommend a 3% border around to avoid losing elements or text.
You need to reduce your image by 3% and place it on the appropriate sized “blank canvas” for printing. This is the “flow” for doing this with 8×8, 10×10 or 12×12 pages already created:
Open new blank (white) file in a 12×12 size (for example) with
300 dpi resolution.
Open .jpg file of your layout (if you have a Photoshop version, flatten it temporarily or save it as a .jpg file). You now want to resize the layout by going to Image - Resize - Image Size. When the dialog box comes up, in the “Pixel Dimension” box, change the measurement type from “pixel” to “percent”. You will see it go from 3600 x 3600 (for the 12×12) to 100 x 100. Change the “100″ to “97″. It should change both figures to 97. This shrinks your layout by 3%.
Click OK.
Drag your newly resized and flattened layout from its own file to the blank file. My layouts centered themselves on the blank page. You may want to “eye ball” it to be sure you have it centered. You will now have your layout on a page with a thin white border all the way around. Save this as a .jpg file for printing.
The way to understand it: the printing process will enlarge (“overspill”) the image just enough to fill in that white space. If there is still some left when you get the print, it will probably be very thin and easily trimmed off without ruining the ultimate dimensions you are seeking.
